In Honor Of…

The bond of a real, loving father and his daughter is a force to be reckoned with.

From the start, he is her greatest hero, the strongest guy she knows. She thinks every man is like him, or should be if he’s not.

She stows notes into his lunch box, calls him to her rescue when she’s had a nightmare, and the minute he walks in the door hands him a homemade menu and invites him to dine at her colorful, plastic kitchenette set.

Dad fixes everything, from cars and home improvement projects to hurt feelings and chocolate milkshake cravings.

OK, so maybe this isn’t about every dad; it’s about mine.

My dad: The guy with a witty phrase for every situation; the type to give every person he meets the benefit of the doubt; and the hardest working man I know.

How many dads do you know who enjoy taking their daughters shopping? He hates reading, yet he’s never failed to read and comment on everything I write. He doesn’t turn me down when I call him at work, knowing he’s probably terribly busy; he’ll listen and let me chat away anyway.

He’s always been my biggest fan. He cheers me on through all my activities, ambitions, and accomplishments.

Sure, he’s known to be a grouchy, irritable bear every now and again. But all it takes is a hug or playful joke from me and he’s back to being silly.

He isn’t Superman, he has his flaws and he’s aware of them, but he is still my hero nonetheless.

Thanks for always being constant, Dad. I love you.

Happy Father’s Day everyone!
